Together with our form teachers Prof. Mag. Willinger and Prof. Mag. Kampichler we went on an amazing language trip to Brighton. A bus took us from the airport London Heathrow to Brighton, where taxis brought everyone to their host families. We got to know them and had the rest of the evening to ourselves.
We woke up on Monday morning and got ready for school. Some of us took the bus, while others walked. When we arrived, we were divided into small groups, which became our new “classes”. In class, we got to know the teacher, played some games, and did a few English exercises. After lunch, we took the bus to Brighton city centre. There, we had a tour guide who showed us around the city. We even had an interesting encounter with a local. Afterwards, we were free to explore and spend the rest of the day however we pleased.
On Tuesday, we had school again, where my class played a quiz. After lunch, we took the bus to the Seven Sisters, a series of chalk sea cliffs. It was very muddy, and we climbed a hill from which we had an incredible view of the sea.
On Wednesday, the weather was bad. It was raining heavily, and it was also freezing. Our class did a scavenger hunt through the city centre. We then went back to school for lunch and had the afternoon to do whatever we wanted. Many people went to play laser tag, and even the teachers joined us.
On our last day at the language school, our group made a short film called “The Truth About Brighton.” Afterwards, we watched all the films and had lunch.
Friday was supposed to be our last day in England. A taxi took us from our host families to the school early in the morning. From there, we all got on a bus and were driven to London. We had a short tour with our teachers and even got to see the changing of the guard at the royal palace. Then we were free to explore the city on our own. A few hours later, we met back at the bus and headed to the airport.
On the way there, we received a notification that our flight had been cancelled due to weather conditions in Austria. When we arrived at the airport, the staff told us we could catch another flight, so we sprinted to a different gate. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the wrong one, and by then it was too late to catch the plane. We were booked into the Radisson Blu hotel and took a shuttle there. We got our rooms and had a big dinner before going to bed.
On Saturday, we had the whole morning and lunchtime free. In the early afternoon, we took the shuttle back to the airport, checked in our luggage, and went through security. We spent several hours at the airport, as our flight kept getting delayed. Eventually, we boarded the plane and finally went home.
It was an incredible experience, but also a little nerve-wracking towards the end. I am glad that I got the chance to take part in this unforgettable trip. (Miriam Warton, 8CL)
